President & Executive Director
David has served the foundation since 2008 and is currently President and Executive Director. David has a keen understanding of current economic and consumer trends impacting charitable giving from various perspectives, which he gained through experience as a pastor, a development director, and a regional and national church leader. His practical motivational seminars engage peer learning and his comprehensive consultation is customized to meet the specific needs of each organization, empowering leaders to discover their vital role in enabling communities of faith to embody a generous culture.
David is Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Ecumenical Stewardship Center. He is an active member of The Alban Institute, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Christian Leadership Alliance, and the National Association of Church Business Administrators. He is currently pursuing certification as a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy.
David graduated magna cum laude from Drew Theological School and holds a BA in Religious Studies and Secondary Education from The College of Wooster. David, his wife, Ethel, and two children reside in Brighton, Michigan.
The Rev. Dr. Wayne C. Barrett has served the foundation since 1982. Under his leadership the Foundation's funds under management increased by more than $62,000,000. He has served over 800 congregations with programs and consultations in planned giving, capital funding, and stewardship development.
A prolific author, Wayne has written featured articles for leading church-related magazines, and has authored three best-selling stewardship books, including Get Well! Stay Well!: Prescriptions for a Financially Healthy Congregation, published by Discipleship Resources. Since 1987, Wayne has also served as editor of the Clergy Finance Letter, and is widely quoted in publications such as Net Results, Christian Ministry, The Circuit Rider and The Interpreter.
A much-in-demand speaker, Wayne has served as featured presenter throughout the U.S. and Canada, including the North American Conference on Christian Philanthropy, the United Methodist Convocation on Development, and The Planned Giving School.
Dr. Barrett is married and resides with his wife, Linda, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have three children and four grandchildren. Wayne believes his children are his most significant accomplishment.
Sr. Director of Stewardship
With nearly four decades of pastoral ministry and conference leadership experience, Jeff brings a wealth of practical knowledge to the foundation. His primary focus is providing financial discipleship services to local churches throughout the Michigan Area. Jeff is available to assist church leaders with stewardship education, church financial strategies, annual campaigns, investment opportunities, and capital campaign readiness.
Throughout his ministry, Jeff has pastored varying sizes of congregations and has served the Detroit Conference as both a district superintendent and director of connectional ministries. Prior to joinging the foundation in July 2013, Jeff was senior pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rochester, Michigan.
Director of Accounting Services
Ann Buck currently serves the foundation as Director of Account Services. Ann served for a number of years in the area of administrative services with the West Michigan Treasurer’s Office and is well known throughout much of the Michigan Area. Ann is responsible for many bookkeeping functions of the Michigan Area Loan Fund, local church investment statements, other trust and annuity account services, and direct customer service.
Ann brings a wealth of knowledge to our accounting services area. She is highly respected for her collegial style, her exceptional customer service skills. Most importantly, her passion for the Church and its ministry.
Grand Rapids Office Manager
Marian currently serves as the Operations Manager for the United Methodist Foundation of Michigan. She holds both a Master’s of Science Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Marian worked for 10 plus years as a human resource manager. In this area she worked extensively with benefit management, conflict resolution, recruitment of professional staff and customer service training.
Marian has been employed by the United Methodist Church since 2001 in the areas of education, volunteer coordination and the credentialing of ministerial candidates through the Board of Ordained Ministry.
