Balanced Fund Changes Scheduled
for First Quarter of 2013
One of the main tasks of the Investment Committee of the United Methodist Foundation of Michigan is to recommend a long-term strategic allocation for the Balanced Fund investors in the UMF Collective Investment Funds of Michigan LLC. Toward the end of the first quarter of 2013, we will be shifting the Balanced Fund allocation from 55% invested in the Stock Fund and 45% invested in the Bond Fund to a slightly higher stock allocation of 60% with 40% remaining in bonds. We have elected this change for three primary reasons:
- The risk of interest rates rising from persistently low levels causing declines in bond prices
- The attractive dividends of many large multi-national companies that are currently higher than bond yields, and
- The relatively high prices of bonds versus their stock counterparts.
Balanced Fund investors do not need to take any action, but do have until March 15, 2013 to opt out of the proposed rebalancing. You will note this reallocation when you receive your April statements. Again, no action is required by Balanced Fund investors for this rebalancing to occur.
Remember that you have complete flexibility with this asset allocation. You may choose a portfolio heavy with stocks (i.e. 80% Stock Fund/20% Bond Fund) or a less volatile allocation with more fixed income assets (i.e. 40% Stock Fund/60% Bond Fund) or any other allocation mix. If you do not already have online account access, you may contact our office and sign up.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you desire to change your account allocation or if we may serve other stewardship interests.
